May 19, 2026 – Koko Head Elementary School’s HI-5 Recycling

The roar of cans and bottles tumbling out of recycling cages, the smell of stale beer, the occasional B-52 cockroach escaping from the piles, and the joy of finding plastic bottles with caps already removed – five hard-working Lions experienced this and the satisfying feeling of being able to help the students, faculty, and parents of Koko Head Elementary School by sorting HI-5 containers for recycling and cash.
The last sorting event of the school year was completed in record time with parents and students pitching in. At the end of the event, there were around 50 large garbage bags filled with bottles and cans to be redeemed. The parents were very appreciative of the continued help from the Hawaii Kai Lions Club and pledged to support our breakfast fundraiser as well. The cash collected from the recyclables will directly support Koko Head Elementary School’s activities. What a win-win situation – both for the school and our Aina!
