September 19, 2025 – Kaiwi Mauka Lands Preservation

On September 19, 2025, the Kaiwi Coalition and Livable Maunalua Hui team conducted one of its regular Kaiwi Mauka Evenings volunteer workdays in the late afternoon.  Efforts were led by Luka Zavas who described some of the history of the Ka Iwi Coast area, the native plants now being nurtured, and the specific goals for the afternoon’s efforts.  Thankfully there was a constant breeze, and the area being worked had afternoon shade. Activities focused on removing grass and weeds along a fenceline, retrieving assorted golf balls from the nearby driving range, and watering native plants that had been planted from previous project efforts.
