September 2, 2025 – Koko Head Elementary School Hi-5 Sorting

Published by Webmaster on

On September 2, 2025, the Hawaii Kai Lions along with parents of Koko Head
Elementary School students sorted two large cages full of Hi-5 bottles, cans, and glass.
They were joined for a time by the older students at the school. After the end of the
Summer school break, the cages were filled to their maximum. In addition, the school
Custodian brought out an additional large number of bags of recyclables – overflow from
the cages. The dedication and enthusiasm of all the volunteers completed the sorting
in short order.

Proceeds from the HI-5 containers are used for enrichment activities at the Koko Head
Elementary School that are not supported by the Department of Education. In one year,
this periodic sorting activity generates approximately $ 4,000 for the school. Lauren
Cooper, President of the Friends of Koko Head School, personally expressed to the
Club volunteers her great appreciation for the Hawaii Kai Lions’ support of the school.
