December 20, 2025 – Kaiser High School VEX-V5 Robotics Competition

On December 20, 2025, robotics teams from intermediate and high schools on Oahu and Maui converged on the Kaiser High School Library for an all-day VEX V5 Robotics Competition.
The VEX V5 Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, is the largest and fastest growing middle school and high school robotics program globally with more than 20,000 teams from 50 countries playing in over 1,700 competitions worldwide. Each year, an exciting engineering challenge is presented in the form of a game. Students, with guidance from their teachers and mentors, design, build, and program innovative robots for competition and in the process learn to integrate technical knowledge and build communication and teamwork.
The top team in this year’s tournament was Mililani Mechs from Mililani High School, who far outpaced their competitors.
The Hawaii Kai Lions Club was asked to provide judges for this event. Five Lions and one CIS (Companion-in-Service) were given a crash course with very specific rules and guidelines, then were off in pairs interviewing the 34 teams who competed against each other. These groups of intermediate and high schoolers exhibited technical knowledge, expertise, competence, and teamwork at an amazing level. Our Lions all left the competition with a renewed respect for what this new generation of young men and women are truly capable of.
